Lightford advances Global Scholar Program

Assistant Majority Leader Kimberly A. Lightford (D- Westchester) sponsored legislation that will award qualifying high school students with a State Global Scholar Certificate upon graduation.

Students will be able to complete the Global Scholar Certification Program by taking globally focused classes, engaging in global collaboration and dialogue, learning unique ways to give back to the community and the entire world, and completing a capstone project demonstrating global competency.

Wallace Legislation to Create At-Risk Student Advisory Council Passes House Committee

wallaceSPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A bill introduced by state Rep. Litesa Wallace, D-Rockford, that would create an advisory council to review educational strategies for disadvantaged students passed out of committee Thursday and now moves to the House floor for consideration.

“Our education system is failing to give at-risk children the opportunity they need to receive a quality education and set them up for a strong career,” Wallace said. “This advisory council will look at ways we can improve the outlook for students in Rockford and around our state.”
